Sonoma Mountain Road Slide

Hi All. I don’t know if Petra remembers going over this slide when I took her up the Sonoma Mountain Road, but I sure do. I hate to think how this area is going fair in a major quake along the Rodgers Creek fault.

Anyone living above this area could find it a little hard going in trying to get out of there. It would also make it near impossible to get any emergency vehicles into the area.

I can’t remember driving anywhere around Sonoma County with seeing a slide looking for a place to happen. They are all over the place. Take Care…Don in creepy town

Petaluma, Sonoma County. In December 1997 a slide disrupted Sonoma Mountain Road, east of Petaluma (north of the residence at 550 Sonoma Mountain Road). The failure appears to be the reactivation of an older, deep-seated slide complex that flanks the western boundary of the Rodgers Creek fault zone. The slide is approximately 400 feet in length and approximately 150 feet wide. The northeast lateral margin of the slide resulted in vertical displacement (down) of the road four feet. The vertical relief in the headscarp of the failure indicates the upper portion of the slide dropped approximately eight to ten feet. The depth of the failure is estimated to be at least 15 feet in the central portion of the slide mass (Ristau, 05/19).
