Hi All. How many of you remember the Loma Prieat quake in 89? A lot of people said that this quake put more stress on Hayward Fault. There were also a lot that said it relieved some of the pressure.
What I have most interesting about that quake (other then the fact my cat almost slept through it and we live about 30 miles from the epicenter) is that all of the current activity at Mammoth Lakes started shortly after the quake. There was another period and that was in 1980. That started after we had a very strong quake in Morgan Hill (The strongest in 40 years I think for Northern Calif.)
Just in the last 24 hrs there was 3.7M 9 milesNNW Portolola. Where was the epicenter of the Quake? It was in the Walker Lane Belt. The Walker Lane Belt at last report started at the Coso Volcanic Field and ended somewhere in northeastern Calif. Walker Lane Belt covers a wide area, and right about now I also having a feeling that it is a lot longer then what it was when the last study was made.
My feeling is while the San Andreas is still going to be a problem, but biggest problem is east of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range
The Walker Lane Belt is just a small segment of "horst garbens" theory on the ECSZ. For all-purpose and intent that will be the new San Andreas Fault.
He made this statement close to a year ago, and it is coming too pass now, one quake at a time. Take Care…Don in creepy town.
