Don's New Zealand forecast - events

Don did not enter the Tax Day contest officially, but he did have a forecast which looks like a pretty good match - #14605 for North Island New Zealand. Don had expected a Ml 3.0-4.0 between April 11 and 15 at 39.0S 174.3E (within 65 km). There was a lot of activity in that general region in the past 3 days - for a summary see today's earthquake summary report. The two events of Ml 4.8 are the largest shallow earthquakes in that region in about 15 years and certainly within the past 2 years. Of course, they will not get listed in the CNSS catalog, so they would not be eligible for consideration. But you might want to check out the New Zealand listing at: http://www.gns.cri.nz/news/earthquakes/index.html Just for kicks and screams. Or check out the Quick Epicenter Determinations (USGS) - there is one there on 14 April which is pretty close to Don's forecast epicenter
