Hi All. I want you to know that I’m as proud of Petra as I can be.

She has this fear of heights and going up mountain roads and crossing certain bridges. Sunday she asked me if I would take her up Sonoma Mountain. I thought she had been there before so there wouldn’t be any problems. It wasn’t until I turned off onto Sonoma Mountain Road that I learned she had never been there before.

I thought that we would get about half way up and she would start to panic and would tell me to turn around and take her home. When the road got down to about a lane and a half and was like a roller coaster with a lot turns I could see she was getting scared. It was about this time she saw some deer in a little clearing on the right hand side of road and asked me to stop so she could look at them. The deer were about 20 yards away and didn’t appear to be afraid of us. This is the first time she has seen deer this close without them running away. All three of them were blacktail doe’s. That is the species we have along the coastal range in California. We must have stayed there about 3 or 4 minutes then told me I could go. I drove on up the road waiting for the moment she was going to tell me to turn around and take her home.

About 10 minutes later we were at the top. As scared as she was she made it to the top.

I can’t say I know what she must have gone through because driving those kinds of roads doesn’t bother me a bit. However I can say we have gone up roads that weren’t as bad as this one and she has told me to turn around.

Was Petra scared? You better believe she was, but she fought back that fear and fought back the temptation to tell me to turn around. Am I proud of her? You bet I am. Just as proud of her as I can be. Take Care…Don in creepy town
