Hi Roger,
We have had extensive discussions on the intellectual property rights to this material
with the appropriate people over the past several months.
The materials pertinent to the basic concept of triggering at a distance where
distances are specifically defined has already been published and copyrighted
as part of a PhD thesis. The copyrights for the concept are therefore already
set.
In the other hand, the use and futher development of such material, as with anything w
hich has beenpublished and the applications are available for the first taker. The development
of the maps is an important application, and especially as they become more
sophisticated with addition of several events. That is an application of the original
concept which you have the right to publish or copyright provided no one beats
you to the punch.
The people working on this have expressed their satisfaction that you are doing
something they have been unable to accomplish - making this material available
in a public forum where it can be tested and developed and they appreciate this.
In their view this is a collaborate effort, hopefully leading to a new way of looking
at short-term earthquake forecasting, and are quite satisfied to share the authorship
of any materials developed with you or anyone else who is involved in the origination
of concepts or visualization tools related to this.
