Afghanistan earthquake - deadly because of poor construction

The earthquake in Hindu Kush killed 4,000 and counting. Although 20,000 were killed
in an earthquake in Afghanistan on April 4, 1905, this appears to be the highest
death toll ever associated with an earthquake in the Hindu Kush region.
