Hi Chris. The creep in this area is normal although it does appear to be a little more then usual. In the area where it appears to be the greatest amount of quakes there are a couple of faults that parallel one another. These are the San Andreas, Calaveras and Paicines faults and the section known as the San Benito fault zone. The Browns Valley fault is located a couple of miles to the east of this area, but have never seen a quake associated with it. The Quien Sabe fault is located further north and to the east of Hollister. It has popped a couple of good ones in the past. None of the quakes were seeing there now appear to be associated with this fault.

This amount of creep however doesn’t rule out the possibility of having a quake in the M>3.0 to 5.0 range. Most of the time those are always south of the Hollister/San Juan Bautista area. The faults move along with their M>1s and 2s with an occasional 3 or 4 even a 5 such as what we had in August of 1998 and then picks where it left off with more 1s and 2s.

You can say that Hollister is defiantly a town that is going somewhere. Take Care…Don in creepy town
