Shan; under Item #2, the plates are not floating on a sea of lava. The crust rests on the mantle which is plastic, not liquid, and it's very thick. About 0.45 of the radius. The ocean is relatively insignificant. If the earth was an apple, the oceans are thinner than the peel.
