Re: Earthquake Prediction/Forecasting - Are We Ready For Prime Time? |
Hi Kiddo. The old saying about learning how to walk before you run can apply here. You start out with the small quakes and gradually work your way up to the big one hoping all the time that the big one doesn’t sneak up on you. To do this correctly accuracy is the key word. I read that you find the best weather forecaster you can find; the earthquake forecaster will have to be at least 10% more accurate. However the most accurate earthquake forecast won’t save lives unless one is prepared for that major quake. That means being prepared for when the quake occurs and for what occurs after the quake. Depending on where you live and the severity of the quake may mean you could be on your own for an extended length of time. Having a well-trained, well-equipped police and fire dept. doesn’t mean they are invincible to an earthquake. Surviving the quake starts with the person. A little time and effort spent now in getting prepared for the quake as if it was going to occur next week can mean that you will still be here after it strikes.
