Getting close to Istanbul - FFA

The following earthquake was recorded by the Turkish network KAN and reported
by EMSC tonight:
O: 5MAR2002 05:23:37 41.0N 25.0E Ml=5.0 KAN GREECE-BULGARIA BORDER REGION

This event lies 35-36 degrees from the epicenter of the Hindu Kush
earthquake (Mw 7.2) in an area to the west of Istanbul, Turkey in the
Aegean Sea. This was an area and distance specified in the far-field forecast
as having potential for FFA as follows:

"34-36 degrees: Istanbul, Turkey area"

and

"Secondary location where event tend to occur but are not
as large or as likely . MB>=4.8 considered likely in next
10 days.

Istanbul Turkey area (1)
Sicily/Greece/Central Europe (5)"

A note was posted yesterday on the seismic hazard in this general region.
