Well maybe the old standy of "piezocrystal fracturing at depth" to explain the lights may be stressed in explaining all the observations.

Can light-waves created by fracturing piezo crystals penetrate ocean water to allow it's appearance on the water's surface?

The observations sure do point to another mechanism for the generation of such lights IMHO.

I think that a "going back to the drawing board" on the why of it is in order for anyone subscribing to the piezo-electric fracture luminosity source line of thinking.
