Hi Carol. Glad you enjoyed it. Being an old country boy I like to get out into the wide open spaces. In other words there are times I like to get away from people. Not all people, just most of them.

There is a lot of history in Parkfield. If only one could dig into the past and learn it. Hopefully the “Earthscope” project at Parkfield will shed some light on the nucleus of an earthquake.

I read somewhere that every quake starts out as a major quake, but something stops it and it’s nothing more than a “popcorn quake.” What that something is up for debate. Some say its insufficient stress. Others say it ran into a bigger rock, or a bigger obstruction.

It could be all of the above, or none of the above, but that is rather doubtful. More likely it is a combination of many factors. Do we know all the factors? I don’t think so. At least I don’t.

It’s going to take someone smarter then me to find the answer, but it won’t be found unless they are willing to look at all possibilities. To quote Dr. John Derr. “The earth is stranger then we give it credit for.”

To be able to predict a major quake you must learn what makes a quake a major quake. This means you look at it from the time it starts building towards becoming major until it breaks and starts the cycle all over again. Take Care…Don in creepy town
