One of the definitions of a professional is that such a person does not necessarily know
all the answers, but knows where to find the answers. Since I have been a semi and full
professional in this field for decades, I have gradually become pretty good at knowing
where information and data is to be found. Add to that more than 50 years of watching
and studying earthquakes and writing and experience in the field.
In modern society, age and experience doesn't seem to count for much - in some
cases it can be a considerable detriment, in fact. Still, as we get older, I think we
begin to understand that the experience of a lifetime of work and study can't be matched
by book knowledge or by hacking a computer.
