I live about 30 miles - as the crow flies - from the Fort Tejon region. The drive back through Lake Hughes to the 138(?) to the 5 is incredible. There's a lot of wildlife and vast flats out in Hungry Valley.

For some time, a friend and I sought out the Los Padres Mine, following some of the sad old folk lore that came out of Fort Tejon. Haunting stuff. The 1857 Tejon quake was recounted in personal accounts as actually dramatically reshaping some of the landscape.

Recently, I've seen something called InSAR, which I'm sure you've heard of. (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar.) This is where post-quake stress is mapped from a satellite. The stress areas are represented by different colors or wavelength patterns.

Why don't they use InSAR to map regions and do a before and after comparison? (Maybe I just don't understand its limits.)
