Ahhh - but 2 cents - you are speaking of liquefaction - that is not what may happen here - Mexico City was build on an old lakebed - big difference. LA is built on runoff from the mountains via rivers (and the occasional landslide).

We do have liquefaction here but our water table isn't as close to the surface as it is in Mexico City. What the article is saying is that there's going to be a whole lot of shaking going on when it goes.
