Earthquake forecasting breakthrough? Feb. 13, 2002

I believe that I may have just made an important breakthrough with my earthquake forecasting program. With the program, data regarding the positions of the sun and the moon in the sky and the locations of ocean tide crests and troughs when precursor signals are detected are compared with similar data for past earthquakes. When good matches are found it indicates to me that another earthquake could be about to occur near where the previous one occurred.

Part of that data comparison process involves looking for a variety of patterns in the precursor and earthquake data. And I believe that I may have now discovered an important one which involves earthquakes and their aftershocks. Applying that pattern match process to my precursor data I recently concluded that a strongly felt earthquake might be about to occur in the Taiwan area. And one did occur there yesterday, February 12 right where I was expecting.

This could be the first really “solid” precursor - earthquake data comparison procedure which I have been able to devise. I believe that it should work with a variety of precursor data including earthquake sensitivity types of “ear tones.” And I expect that it could probably be easily and inexpensively used by governments and research groups around the world.

I am in the process of preparing a report on that procedure. If all goes according to plan I will be circulating copies of it to scientists and government officials around the world some time later this week. Copies will probably also be posted to the sci.geo.earthquakes Newsgroup and stored at my Freewebz.com Web site. And a short note will be posted to this bulletin board to let people know when that Web site copy becomes available.

These are statements of personal opinion.
