Re: Earthquake Tracker |
Hi Kate. It was the site at Parkfield that was underwater. Tom believes that water has gotten into the antenna unit. He has a student in the area that takes care of the monitor at Parkfield and as soon as the area is dry enough for him to get in they are going to move it. The biggest problem is finding a place to put it. It has to be away from an area of vehicle traffic and still have a source of electrical power. Even if what were seeing now wasn’t being caused by a bad unit the data would still be considered bad. It has to go up to at least 3.5 and hold steady. This means no peaks or valleys in the data. It must stay that way for at least 3 days before it is checked with a portable unit. Even then no one is sure if it will work. To date there hasn’t been a quake associated with the data. They know what they saw before the 1989 quake, but no one knows if the same thing will happen at other locations.
