Tommyknockers |
Tommyknockers (sp?) are little Elves that live underground and toss pebbles at miners to warn them there is going to be a cave in. I don't have any particular good reason to think that something is going to happen in the Ventura basin area, except it is one of the more hazardous (EQ) areas of southern California (rapid block motion, long time since last earthquake). I see 3 or 4 aligned tiny earthquakes in the last 24 hours and before between west Hollywood and the aftershocks of the M4.2 in the east Ventura basin area (Northridge rupture zone). This is from the SCEC map: I don't know if they are real (M<2). There has been the idea kicked around for a long time that the NW-SE right lateral faults of the Borderland and Peninsular Ranges such as the Newport Inglewood fault extend under Transverse Ranges below the thrust faults. Tom Wright remarked on this right after the Northridge EQ in 94 (also, Legg, Seeber). I'll keep watching the SCEC California map-I guess this activity now is nothing unusual.
