Also, you might just have a virus loose on your system or may need to clear your temp. interent file cache in your windows/temp internet files directory. You might also try switching to Netscape instead of using IE and/or rebooting. Also, your browser security settings may be a factor.

The projection info. regarding the CA MAP is probably known by USGS (but I take it you don't want to try and ping them for the info.). I've emailed the folks on the site and they have been helpful in the past (and free of charge).

The other maps have the lat/lon info. on the edges which could be mapped to x,y pixels in the bitmap file (which could be used to approximate the lat/lon lines and used to map lat/lon to x,y pixels in the bitmap file). You will have to read and understand the bitmap file specification (which explains how the pixels are organized). I don't know if you want to use that approach though....

You might also want to see what the SimTel web-site has for free-ware/shareware in this area.

I'll get back to you on determining a fault line intersection w/range ring.
