Here's what I left out of my previous report on Deep, Dark, and Ugly. When I heard the phone, I was sitting on the floor facing south. One of my dogs was also lying there, asleep.

At the instant I heard the tone (coming from due east), Paco jumps up and stares in the same direction.

Nothing will ever convince me that he didn't hear the same tone I heard. Scary, no?
