Hollister's Quakes |
Hi All. Since 1974 the area of yesterdays 4.7Ml quake has had 208 quakes above 2.0Ml within a 5 mile radius of 36.64N/121.25W the epicenter of the quake. There have been 11 quakes above 4.0 of which 2 were 5.0Ml. Within a 10 miles radius there have been 421 quakes above 2.0, of which there were 71 quakes above 4.0, two of which were in July of this year. I have no idea as to the total number of quakes that are less then 2.0, but it has to be in the 1000s. In regards to the two 4.0s in July of 2001 Petra heard both of them. With all of this activity how does this area find the time to be able build up enough strain to pop a 4.0+ quake? There are a number of parallel faults in that area so it may be the quakes occur on one fault and then the next fault that lays on either side of the San Andreas fault. Anyway there are enough of them to keep the people in the Hollister area honest. Quake data was taken from the NEIC catalog. Nothing like having fun with numbers on a slow day.
