Re: Locked region holding on |
Here is my 2 cents. I believe that we are OKAY with what is going on in the Tejon Pass. I.E. it may appear locked, but I think it will stay that way for at least the next 100 years. If I am wrong, I couldn't see anything bigger than a 7.0 coming from that segment. If a 7.0 happened, that area is far enough from LA that the shaking in the basin would be nothing greater than a long rolling motion, similar to Hector Mine and Landers. Don made a good point that in the short term it is the areas away from the bend and this locked portion that may show signs of stress transfer, specifically the San Fernando Valley. If you want to monitor a locked and dangerous part of the San Andreas, keep your eye on the Salton Sea. IMO that is ready to pop any day now. And Don is right, things will get a bit tense 15 million years from now when San Francisco is right next to LA. Having lived in both, I think it would be safe to say that LA people will find it rather "cool" to be near a city by the bay while people in San Francisco will probably beside themselves with angiush at such an atrocity. :) Follow Ups: ● Re: Locked region holding on - chris in suburbia 09:45:21 - 12/21/2001 (12177) (0) |
