Hi Don:

Interesting article. Remarks below are aimed at the article....

Sometimes the use of the word "tectonic" (and related words) in the questions raised imparts a downward spiraling trajectory towards a non-solution "dead-end" space (lemming style). This situation metaphorically demands (read "screams") for an alternative explanation/paradigm. However if the background and training of the examiners asking the questions prediposes them to remain in their respective boxes then the outcome is "Fait Complete (?)" (read "Checkmate" 'd).

Thus...the endless head scratchings and murmurings to no apparent avail. "Head bangings" also come to mind.

I wonder what approach a non-geologist/ seismolgist would use to try and resolve this problem...? Maybe they would have deployed an array of other sensors which would have provided more raw data and possibly more insight...??

Even the Army is smart enough to call in the Air Force when they get "stuck".... Sometimes a little help from above is all you need.

Do you think the AGU would be able to detect a "stealth heretic" applying for membership? Do you think they censor annual meeting projects by Title too? A yes to this question may force a heretic to devise some sufficiently benign sounding title so as to escape detection and thus be to deliver the info. unfettered (with the exception of the hecklers in the audience... and maybe a big U-shaped rod used to pull unaccepted performers (read "ideas") off the stage...). I suppose there is one way to find out....

Just another ramblin' 2 cents worth....

(I belive some other related info may be out in 2/02 or so...)
