AGU Day Two

Hi All,

Well today was back to back busy and fun. We got to meet Chris from Suburbia and had a short but good chat. It's always fun to meet message board friends.

We had lunch with the Seismology group and met two from Caltech and then moved on to see our friend from Mammoth and sat in on a Volcano Seismicty session. This was interesting in learning the new testing and hypothesis of those who are young and out doing lots of field research.

Later it was dinner with the Planetary Sciences group at an Italian Restaurant, Il Nacino in SF. The company was wonderful and the dinner not bad either. Don was in his heyday, chatting up the ladies tonight. He had a woman to this right from the Hawaiian Tsunami Warning Center, one across who was a designer of interactive programs and then down the table we had a group of planetary researchers from the Unv of Michigan. One of them was from Russia. Very interesting table companions.

But the best news is that if we can make the connection tomorrow that we need, come Friday we will be hanging out on the RCF watching it being set up for monitoring, with a full compliment of instruments, via the USGS and by the way of Don, who's not one bit bashful in asking.

I also got a referral for a geologist who just moved up my way who might be interested in checking out our study area on the RCF. This too is good news.

It has been one long day, but one both of us will remember for years to come. Tomorrow its Awards Night at the AGU. The young Scientists of the Year will receive their awards in a very humbling ceremony, followed by a wine reception and a 6 course meal.

One note on the ear tone log. I thought the geographical location was the location of the expected earthquake, not the posters location, so my tone reports up until tonight are in the reverse order.
