I know that the Santa Rosa Press Democrat says that they are a North Coast rep of the media, but anyone who has driven from SR to the ocean or from Cloverdale to Albion or 20 from Willits to Fort Bragg OR Laytonville to Rockport...whew!!! knows that there is an intense mountain range between the start and the finish of these locations...Not only does the topography change 3X from valley to mountain to coast, but it is dramatic in views, weather, smells...etc...By the time one gets to the coast....so much has changed. I have seen it in the eyes and heared it in the voices of kids whose parents come to the coast for a relief of the scorching valley summers...I think they tell the kids that this will be a fun vacation to the ocean. Well that may be true with the Atlantic in summer at times, but in Cal....the weather change is dramatic...Most kids complain about the damp and the ocean sea smell and the fact that even in summer one does not go far into the water....even cold at the beach. Only way you can have a good trip is to dress warm in July and bring a good windbreak and use semi-dried driftwood to build a fire...Kids like to run along the beach and collect pieces of shells..but only do it for 10 minutes and then want to go home! Even on sunny days...

So I am back to ethos...from the post I read "or offshore" . Well the ethos of offshore is way dif than SE of Ukiah. SE Ukiah area once housed one of the main NorCal State mental hospitals (Talmidge State) and is now the home of a Buddhist community...It is scorching hot in summer...frequently getting into the 100+ temps...We are talking weather that even snakes stay in their holes for:-) and ya better have water...Ethos....Ethos....Ethos... Know the areas... Live in them and around them and drive the backroads and see the people and the changes...It's like Peter Giddings of KGO always said...NorCal has mini-climates..Well it also has min-cultures...Also note that the Coyote Indian Res is near the epi...end of thoughts...
