IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR USERS OF EARTHQUAKE INFORMATION

All USGS web sites (usgs.gov), including those with earthquake information,
were disconnected from the Internet at about 12:00pm pst, Dec. 6, 2001.

Earthquake e-mail from southern California (this list) is not affected.

Real-time earthquake web sites are still available at alternate URL's
through USGS partners. You should bookmark these for use now and as backup
sites after this situation has been resolved.

The Recent Earthquakes maps with current data for all of California is
currently available at the following locations:

http://www.trinet.org/recenteqs/

The disconnect of all Department of Interior sites was ordered by a U.S.
District judge as part of a lawsuit involving the security of the Indian
Trust Fund administered by the DOI. We cannot anticipate how long this
