Do you have any further information on the Cobell v. Norton case? If I read this right - penetration of one system has forced all systems to be shut down? I guess it becomes a question of what kind of information should be secured versus accessible to the public - I might advise any 'criticle' data be behind firewalls and usage of some sort of encryption enabled e-mail for secure communications. This does sound like a 'black day' for many in the earth sciences and other fields who research this information. I assume its not only earthquakes but Volcano, Watersheds, and many other resource information systems.
