This is an interesting area. I have always called those quakes in similar area as markers. Seems about 50% of the time, these Q's are followed by something a bit larger north..Might not even be 50%.

Point Arena was devastated in the 1906 quake. I am certain that the aftershocks hit pretty close and maybe on an undiscovered fault inland from Point Arena. That would be purely guess tho. I do know of some hot bubbling mud springs in not only this area but further north in Mendocino and Fort Bragg....Very remote areas but a fun trip if ya got a 4x4.

The SA jets out from Tomales, where you can actually see the geography from the highway...and by PA it is out a bit more....I thunk (sic mois!) it were 8-10 miles or so...I happened to be watching as the area was mapped by USGS and NOAA back in the 1970's. Oh Petra...theres another field trip for ya! HINT: Go during abalone season and get two for the price of one trip:-) 8 inches for those puppies or Fish and Game will noose ya!
