Hi Don: -I think there is a email pre-view option which if turned on will allow a virus to execute just by opening up your email reader. The answer is to turn off email pre-view (in outlook express I think for sure). This may be dated info. though.

I should have guessed you would have had that base covered with all the web-sites you no doubt visit....

Although, Norton Internet Security is a separate package from the virus checker. Maybe you need to add the 'firewall'? Also, you have to enable
real-time scanning (auto-protect)....

Sounds like you were on somebody else's email list and the virus brought that list into your computer....
