Here's the latest scoop on Don's most recent round of forecasts:
O: Observed event
P: Don in Hollister's Forecast event

POLAND:

There was another earthquake in Poland tonight matching all aspects
of Don's prediction for Poland. The event occurred at:

O: 27NOV2001 04:05:47 51.0N 15.6E ML=2.6 BGR POLAND
P: 23-27NOV 65 km r 50.8N 15.0E Ml 2.4-3.7 POLAND
(Don Nov 21, #11194)

Earthquake Source Parameters:

The event occurred well within the predicted 65 km radius - at 45 km
from the forecast epicenter, within the forecast magnitude and time
windows.

HONSHU JAPAN:

O: 24NOV2001 06:01 35.9N 140.2E Mj=3.8 NIED SOUTHERN_IBARAKI_PREF, JAPAN
P: 22-26NOV 65 km 35.9N 138.6E Mj=3.8-5.1 Fussa-Machi, Japan
(Don Nov 21, #11181)

Earthquake Source Parameters:

The event is on the date expected and within the magnitude range
forecast, but lies about 120 km to the east of the expected epicenter -
the latitude is exactly as forecast.

OFF COAST OF OREGON:

O: 25Nov2001 17:27:11 42.1N 126.8W MB=4.4 NEIS OFF COAST OF OREGON
P: 19-23NOV 40 km 43.3N 127.1W Mb 3.5-4.5 OFF COAST OF OREGON
(Don Nov 17, #11079)

Earthquake Source Parameters:

This is the largest earthquake in the U.S. Canada region since two
Mb 4.4's occurred northwest of this epicenter on November 12. The event
is two days late and lies about 125 km from the poorly located epicenter.
This is the largest event within 125 km of today's epicenter since
July 12, 2001. There have been six 5-day periods in the past 3 years
when an event of Ml>=4 occurred in this region for a probability of
about 0.025 or odds of about 1 in 37 for a successful forecast.

KOREA:

O: 24NOV2001 07:10 36.7N 130.1E Mj=3.7 NIED KOREA STRAIT
P: 21-25NOV 80 km 38.5N 125.7E 3.5-4.8 KOREA
(Don Nov 15, #10980)

Earthquake Source Parameters:
http://argent.geo.bosai.go.jp/freesia/event/hypo/joho.html

The event certainly does not lie within the stated 80 km radius (it
lies about 350 km to the SE). It did, however occur in the general
region described (Korea) within the time window and magnitude range
forecast. It should be noted that within 350 km of the forecast epicenter,
there have been only 3 events in the past 3 years which have had magnitudes
between 3.5 and 4.8 - i.e. the area is relatively aseismic. The
last successful event occurred on Dec. 9, 2000 with Mb 3.8. The probability
of a "successul" prediction within 350 km of the stated epicenter is
therefore about 0,01 or odds of about 1 in 73 for success in a 5-day
window.

VANCOUVER ISLAND:

O: 23NOV2001 10:15:18 51.2N 131.1W ML=2.4 PGC VANCOUVER ISLAND, B.C.
P: 23-27NOV 65 km 51.6N 130.7W Ml 3.2-4.5 VANCOUVER ISLAND, B.C.
(Don Nov 16, #11051)

PGC has yet to publish data for Nov 26 and 27 for this area, so the
predictive window is still open. The above event fits all Don's
parameters with the exception of the magnitude, as it lies about
65 km from the forecast epicenter within the time window. No
evaluation is made at this time because the window has not yet
closed.
