Re: Am I missing something?

Hi Bob,

I thought I'd lend a hand here as both of these "geysers" are in my area.

Don's predictions are based on the Geysers near Geyserville, CA. Recently they started tours by bus so the public could see the "capped off" geothermal field.

As to the Old Faithful Geyser of California in Calistoga as Olga Kolbek told me is the only correct way to identify her geyser, there are absolutely "no predictions" being issued by her or the monitoring scientist in charge, Dr. Paul Silver. There is a web site, but it has no information on monitoring, only how to get there to visit.

Olga is very senior in years now and does not come to the geyser to visit with her guests anymore. I interviewed her about three years ago she told me the story of her life. You would not be surprised to find that when she discovered the geyser changing its schedule she started keeping meticulous records, which continued for 25 years daily. She is very proud that Dr. Silver came along and had the records converted to a computer program and then the monitoring began in earnest.

She was a school teacher who taught home economics and her students in this area haven't forgotten the lessons she taught. She was way ahead in modern thinking about natural remedies and good common sense in handling household accounts.

Her greatest sorrow was that she had planned on having a health spa at her location, but between the time she bought the property and was actually able to move onto it, which was about 1 1/2 years due to a legal problem, the Board of Supervisors changed and their original consent changed to a desent. She never got to live the dream she envisioned.

The geyser itself is a piped geyser, not a natural geyser. It remains a good indicator of pending earthquakes, however, the water level once associated with it has diminished greatly. The time intervals between eruptions has also changed over time. Today they are about ten minutes apart and they used to be 20 or more. With this in mind, it remains possible at some future date it may stop working altogether.

I had fervent hopes that at some point Dr. Silver would allow the data to be web accessible, but it appears that will not occur. It is his personal research project and the data only belongs to him exclusively.

I hope that helps.

Petra
