We rented a house on Ten Mile Beach north of
Mendocino for a number of years. It was an older one story home with foundation right on the ground. Our well was a shallow one and put out good quality water, but an aquifer located below the well sometimes contaminated the drinking well with salt water. This because we were living only 1/3 2000 feet from the water. During an El Nino year we had the same experience of water seeping up THROUH the concrete in the childrens room. Asking the landlord who lived in Petrolia, he said it should not be happening because there was a French Trench around the house to protect this from happening. But it did...and we had kids with ear infections and colds almost the whole following year until we moved away. I explored for cracks but there were none to be seen. And just outside the front door which was next to the kids room, the water bubbled out of the ground during heavy rainstorms..Quite a sight to see. Real glad we moved before we all became ill!
