Burney, California- Information

Hi All. Being as how I have the curiosity of a cat (that’s how I get my self into trouble) I thought I would see what I could find in the way of previous quakes in the area of the most recent quake at Burney, California. What I found was kind of interesting. At least it was to me. It seems this area has a history of quakes that is somewhat an attention getter.

There was a sequence of quakes that began on December 15, 2000 at 21:07 PST with a M3.1 earthquake. A few small aftershocks followed over the next 4 days, but on December 20 at 14:55 PDT activity resumed with a M3.8 earthquake. As of December 21, there were a total of 30 earthquakes recorded, the largest being a M4.6 at 03:39 PM PST Wednesday and the second largest was a M4.3 at 03:22 PM PST, 17 minutes earlier. There were 8 earthquakes above M3.0. This sequence occurred in the same location as a M3.7 earthquake on July 22, 1987 and two quakes of M3.5 and 3.6 on March 27, 1998.

The 3.3 quake on November 07, 2001 also occurred in the same general area. Now the question is, are we going to have a repeat performance of December 2000? Take Care…Don in creepy town
