I think that the activity at volcanic centers is caused by Ohmic heating from induced currents in the earth. This expands the magma and induces motion and eventual earthquakes. Earthquakes in volcanic areas tend to follow strong geomagnetic storms by about 4-6 days, so you should expect a resumption of activity at Mt. St. Helens about Nov. 10-12 - IMHO.
