There appears to be quite a lot of activity in the northern European region today. One of the events has been given the following PRELIMINARY parameters by BGR (see the following web page): http://www-seismo.hannover.bgr.de/cgi-bin/epxlist.script O: 06NOV2001 10:20:21 57.6N 10.1E ML=3.7 BGR DENMARK The earthquake brings to mind Don's Thisted, Sweden prediction for today. On November 1 in post #10583, Don had predicted an event of Magnitude 2.7-3.9 would occur within 65 km of 57.1N 8.7E on Nov. 6, 2001. This earthquake is within the time and magnitude windows, but occurs approximately 90 km from the predicted epicenter. However, because the current epicenter is very preliminary, the event could easily fall within the distance range prescribed. Several other events in the general vicinity have also been reported today, so I would recommend checking the web site below (or above). 31 earthquakes of Ml>=2.7 and Ml<=3.9 have been recorded within 100 km of Don's predicted epicenter since 1965. about 1 per year. The last was a Ml 3.3 on July 8, 1998 so the odds of a "success" within a five-day window are about 1 in 70 or slightly lower. Not your average every-day event, Don, another good prediction. Don's complete forecast had read:
Thisted, Sweden Earthquake Forecast Posted by Don In Hollister on November 01, 2001 at 19:32:51: Magnitude: 2.7-3.9 From: 11/04/2001UTC - To: 11/08/2001UTC Location: Thisted, Sweden Lat: 57.1N - Long: 8.7E - Range: 65Km Hi All. I think I may have eaten to many raw onion and garlic sandwiches today. Then again maybe it's the Moosehead Beer chasers. Anyway I'm really going way, way out on a limb with this one. Looking for a 2.7 to 3.9 quake at 57.1N/8.7E. This is about 10Km north of Thisted, Sweden. Looking for this one to occur on 11/06/2001. The window opens on 11/04/2001 and will close on 11/08/2001. The radius on this will be 65Km. Take Care...Don in creepy town
