Roger - I think the difference is that these tones aren't a constant hum or ringing - for me the long ones might last 30 seconds. Its almost like a pressure change (not always a pressure change but sometimes) then a hum or tone that starts loud and then dies off.

If you look at a log I posted here (in one of these posts) it shows when they occurred - I don't think its tinitus when you get 4-5 tones a month lasting for a few seconds.
