It has been suggested that whale groundings often precede large earthquakes. It has
also been hypothesized that groundings are caused when strong geomagnetic storms
disrupt the geomagnetic field and the whales get confused in their navigation. The strong
geomagnetic storm yesterday may be related to the whale movement you see today -
not to say there isn't a strong earthquake due in the area.
