Within a minute or two of the mainshocks in the Los Angeles area this morning a moderately strong earthquake hit the United Kingdom. See: http://www.emsc-csem.org/cgi-bin/ALERT_all_messages.sh?1 This is the largest earthquake in the United Kingdom since Oct. 5, 1999 (if it is a Ml 4.3, if larger, then the last Ml>=5 in the U.K. occurred on April 2, 1990. Preliminary location places this earthquake north of London and SE of Birmingham England. It is likely to have done some damage in these areas. The relation (if any) between this and the L.A. sequence is not known at this time, but the geomagnetic storm does come to mind when thinking about coincidences such as this.
