Hi All. I received some e-mail this morning from Tom Bleier who maintains the “earthquake tracker” data advising me that the “Crystal Springs” data is indicating what might be a quake in the making.

He explained that at first he thought it might be some bleed over noise from BART, but when it persisted from 0200 to 0400, the times when BART is shut down he started getting a little concerned.

This started on 10/20/01 and continues to present. It is spastic in nature indicating that it builds up then collapses. As of right now it appears to be a wait and see thing.

There was a 2.6Md at Portola Valley on 10/23/2001. The Crystal Springs data covers that area so that may be an area to be concerned with.

The sites are capable of covering an area of about 20 miles. No other sites are showing any indications of a magnetic change so to me this would indicate that at present the change is small and therefore the quake shouldn’t be all that large. However if other sites start indicating a change that will be a whole new ballgame. Keep in mind that this is all new and in many ways everyone is learning what to look for.
