Actually, now that I wrote that, there is a problem with the system, if we want active scientists to interact with non-scientists, amateur scientists, retired scientists.

But, not sure it would be great to have a bunch of pseudo-scientists on, for example, ResearchGate.

Someone should probably write a letter to EOS, Transactions AGU, pointing out the problems, including lack of access to journals by science-interested people. Should be me but I'll probably not get around to it. At least there is some move to open access publications: my last was open access, but part of the cost came out of my pocket (and part from the last funds in a grant).
