Chris news, and new test site

Brian,
I have not registered for the test site but if Earthwaves moves there, I'll follow.

OK, news: I just spent a week or more working on a manuscript for the faults and sediment between Newport Beach and San Diego, California. It is now with co-authors waiting for an edit/edits. I rewrote my online USGS Final technical report (at link), mainly to not include the northern area, which is already published.

For some reason I get really carried away with the USGS reports. Bob Yeats used to do this, with really useful detailed information. I take NSF reports much less seriously, because my take is that these are not used. It is 10 Mbytes with 35 pages and 27 figures. Yes, longer is not better, but this will be used by some.

I'm a little concerned that putting all this information in the report will cause problems for the manuscript.

The manuscript is re-focused to look at strike-slip motion on faults dipping about 50 degrees, and the lack of slip partitioning on the San Mateo Carlsbad fault.

There are newly-mapped faults very close to San Diego, and this has hazard implications, but I know little about their young activity.

Chris
