Interesting. The quarry itself is going to modify the stress field right at the quarry: it reduces the vertical load, so favors thrust earthquakes. Would be interesting to know the focal mechanism and whether the quakes was immediately below the quarry. Quarry could have pushed an underlying (minor) fault to the point of failure and the blast tickled it.
