There's also the saying, "why reinvent the wheel?" What may be more appropriate is the lesser known, "why reinvent the square wheel?" Meaning, why try to reinvent something that's already been done far better than the solution you're likely to come up with. Yes, WWWBoard could be updated. But it would take time and work to do. myBB (or one of several other BB softwares) already do everything that folks have wished for on this forum (and far more), and it implements it far better than I ever could (or you, or a group). Unless, the goal is to actually "make a better mousetrap", why waste the effort? There hasn't been a lot of feedback yet regarding the test forum, but what feedback there is has not been negative. Yes, it's different, and it will take some getting used to, but so would any changes to WWWBoard require people to get used to. BTW, I realize you are very fond of PERL, but PERL is slowly dying. It won't ever go away, but it's not used as much as it once was, being surpassed by other more useful and more up-to-date languages, including Python. You may find this interesting... http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html It's an index tracking the popularity of various programming languages. Some rankings I expected, but several surprised me. Brian Follow Ups: ● Re: Bulletin Board Program - November 12, 2013 - EQF 10:47:38 - 11/14/2013 (101359) (0) |
