There are mud volcanoes or mud pots, but there are also Lava volcanoes very close. I think USGS gets a bit nervous any time this area lights up, but maybe they are on Furlough and home drinking heavily and watching reality TV. Works for me.

I sent an email to two USGS geologists the other day. I am working on data that cross the Hosgri fault that passes very close to the last remaining Nuclear Power plant in California (Diablo Canyon). I got the furlough automatic reply.
