I just realized the meeting is not at the Istanbul Technical Meeting Maslak campus: it is near Taksim and very close to Gezi park, where the demonstrations/tear gas/eyes put out by plastic bullets/ were.

I suppose as long as I don't start a demonstration of some sort, I am absolutely not concerned: I'm more concerned about feral cats and aggressive shoe-shine boys/young men. Don't worry Canie, it is not a primitive place like Rhode Island: people put out food and water for the cats (although some seemed thin in Izmir).

I suppose I will be concerned about my talk.

Hmm, I should be posting more science from the cruise and the week after working with Turkish students and professors....
