Just a note to readers (if any) not familiar with these things: There are M6+ quakes somewhere in the world about 3 times/week. The EQF warning was posted after the Sumatra quake had already occurred. Most of the knowledgeable people who post here would consider this warning meaningless.

I personally think these posts bring down the level of this page and indeed we know they have driven people away from it. They distract from physics/science-based efforts to do short-term prediction, or other earthquake science-related work. So, in a small way, these posts do harm, which I am sure is not the intent.
