M7.8 deep normal quake SE Iran

I don't know how populated the region is (looks like mountains, but near flatter, lower elevation. Normal faulting M7.8, hypocenter 82 km. Looked at Google Earth: not very populated close. But normal faulting that deep in that location seems odd. Perhaps the mountains are normal faulting mountains (like Nevada), but usually would only be in upper 20 km.
