Beth and all,

I was pretty good about not taking shots at the Heartland U (not real name) department until the post above. But, Beth, I am now living 2000 km from there and so is quickly becoming a dim memory, and will be really dim when our house is sold and HW (wife) move here and become IW. I'll miss my tennis buddies and a couple of others.

The unrelated Subpoeana thing may or may not affect me. I do have to keep all related emails. If I have to produce documents and emails that will be a huge pain because I'm not that organized. Will take away from me doing something useful (like getting back to manuscript on the near offshore faults between Long Beach and San Diego). I know I (and the project) did nothing wrong, and a lot right. Maybe there was some expense for Turkish student living expenses or travel in USA that they did not like, but I'm just guessing: I have no idea what the problem is.

So, I was being cranky after a couple of beers. I think it is your daughter who has Geology degree or has taken a lot of classes? If she is a "star" she can do OK in the research professor path. It is difficult for me because I am really bad at teaching and can't handle the stress, so have to try and make a living at 100% "soft money". So, that was and is my choice.
