Jupiter doesn't change direction. It is still orbiting the sun as usual...or it was the last I heard. An apparent "change" or "retrograde" is an apparent motion based upon the Earth's orbit.

I'm not an astronomer, but I think that this is correct. The 6s are just bringing things back to average.
