I remember it well.

In the days before the quake it was unusually hot, dry, high cirrus clouds. I made the comment to my co-workers that it was 'earthquake weather'.

Of course, that's the only time since then that we've had 'earthquake weather' and there WAS an earthquake.

BTW, that interchange is now named the Clarence Wayne Dean Memorial Interchange in honor of the CHP officer who died when the motorcycle he was riding went off the missing overpass while attempting to report for duty after the earthquake.
